Deep Roots, new fiber and textile art exhibit to begin on Mar 28

Deep Roots, the new fiber and textile art exhibit arranged by Anita Jain of Common Strands, an international fiber arts nonprofit organization. The event will open on Saturday, March 28 from 3 to 5pm at the Dassel History Center, 901 First St. N.

Approximately 50 works from 23 American fiber artists whose roots are in the Nordic countries will be exhibited. Their art reflects their deep rooted feelings for the old traditions and the appreciation and awe for their forefathers’ strength and sacrifices it took to start a new live so very far from home, Jain said.

Add to the art the poignant stories that each artist has written about the generations that came before them, and you cannot but be touched.
This exhibit is a tribute to all those brave Nordic souls that immigrated to this continent, a world away, so long ago.

According to Carolyn Hojie, director of the Dassel History Center, it’s really a fabulous opportunity for people to see some really good fiber art.

The exhibit will be at the Dassel History Center through April 25. Hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The History Center will be open extended hours for the exhibit, Sundays from 1-3 p.m., March 29, April 12 and April 19.

The art exhibited in Dassel will also be considered for an exhibit in Finland during the coming summer.
