De Gyves transforms its textile waste into compostable coal

The Mexican fashion brand, De Gyves Fashion, has announced the development of a sustainable thermodynamic process, that could transform solid waste and the products of the manufacture of its materials made from cactus into compostable coal.

De Gyves Fashion is a brand specialists in the sale of apparel and accessories made from materials produced from the cactus as an alternative to animal skin and synthetic materials.

The chemical engineer and founder of De Gyves Fashion, Alejandro López Arriaga should be given immense credit for the accomplishment of this process and ensuring it is carried out. The company has also committed to its zero-waste policy after witnessing the fashion industry to be the second most polluting in the world.

De Gyves Fashion has launched a line of customised jackets and bags for women, made from plant-based cactus materials. Their manufacturing process has been developed in partnership with Desserto. Desserto is another Mexican company, that has successfully acquired the German Green Product Awards 2020 and has worked with other companies to offer cactus-based alternative materials for clothing, shoes, and even boxing gloves.

Desserto is a highly sustainable plant-based vegan-leather made from cactus, often distinguished by its great softness to touch while offering great performance for a wide variety of applications and complying with the most rigorous quality and environmental standards. The textile has been developed by two Mexicans who used to work in the automotive and fashion industries. The vegan leather aims to offer a cruel-free and sustainable alternative, without toxic chemicals, phthalates and PVC.
