Crystal partners EarthDay to support its reforestation efforts

Crystal International Group has teamed with the nonprofit non-profit EarthDay.org, to support its reforestation efforts in Bangladesh.

The Canopy Project, a cornerstone of EarthDay’s work, strengthens communities in danger from climate change and environmental degradation, maintains biodiverse ecosystems all over the world and reforests places that urgently require restoration.

The Canopy Project has set a target of planting and committing to 10 million trees by the end of 2022. This month, EarthDay will plant 100,000 mangroves beside Crystal near the villages of Banishanta union in Bangladesh’s Khulna division.

Native plants that have been planted in the area are ideal for tying soil to embankments, allowing for more boat launch places since they are salt- and flood-tolerant.

Kathleen Rogers, president of EarthDay, said that Mangroves provide advantages beyond fish nidification and embankment security. Mangroves sequester roughly two to four times as much carbon as a mature tropical forest, helping to improve air quality and reduce the environmental footprint of those living in the area. They are happy to partner with a company like Crystal International Group Limited, one of the largest pioneering global apparel manufacturers, that is leading sustainable clothing manufacturing.

Catherine Chiu, vice president, global sustainability of Crystal International, said that tree planting has always been a priority for Crystal International, and it is one of the indicators of its worldwide 5-year sustainability targets. They acknowledge the ecological significance of mangrove ecosystems in supplying vital habitats for countless species. They are excited to work with EarthDay.org to promote biodiversity, cultivate mangroves, and combat climate change and deforestation.

Planting trees is one of Crystal International Group Limited’s ongoing sustainable initiatives. In the past 15 years, the group has planted nearly 3 million trees.
