Crystal International to focus on sustainable apparel production

Crystal International emphasizes its vital role in leading the global sustainable fashion chain. The company is dedicated to participating in various industry programs that foster global engagement within the fashion sector.

The company collaborates with renowned industry programs to promote sustainable practices. These include the Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PaCT) program led by the International Finance Corporation, the Clean by Design (CbD) program managed by the Apparel Impact Institute, and Higg Index certified by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC).

Through these partnerships, Crystal International seeks to explore opportunities for sustainable production with a reduced environmental impact. It has been an active member of SAC since 2012 and has adopted the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM) as a standardized way to assess and enhance its environmental performance.

Crystal International is proud of its outstanding environmental performance. In 2023, the company achieved an average score exceeding 90 in the Higg FEM assessment. This accomplishment is shared by only five global factories, showcasing the company’s dedication to energy efficiency, water conservation, carbon reduction, and chemical management.

The company places a strong emphasis on transparency in responsible production. It recognizes the importance of sustainable material certification and product verification to ensure product integrity. The denim team conducted a comprehensive analysis of various washing techniques to achieve a certified label, providing customers with product safety and confidence.

Crystal International enables consumers to trace the supply chain using a unique ID and QR code, ensuring product transparency and accountability.

Catherine Chiu, Vice President of Global Sustainability, highlights the company’s eagerness to participate in industry initiatives. The company contributed to the development of SAC’s Higg FEM 4.0, leveraging its expertise to bring value to the industry.

Miles Lam, Assistant General Manager of Crystal Denim, emphasizes the importance of product verification in driving change in the denim industry. The company plans to expand the verification scope to continue delivering sustainable and certified products of the highest quality standards.

Crystal International looks ahead to advancing sustainable garment production and uniting global efforts on a collective scale.

In July, Crystal International joined Renewcell’s Circulose Supplier Network (CSN) to enhance its circularity efforts. By being a member, the company aims to explore the potential of using textile waste for circular processes and gain access to Recycled Claim Standard-certified Circulose.
