Hong Kong-based, Crystal Denim, is the first garment and denim company to work with antimicrobial technology specialist Noble Biomaterials to use the company’s innovative Ionic+ technologies on garments.
Crystal Denim, Crystal International’s denim business, has introduced a new line of denim that incorporates Noble Biomaterials’ Ionic+ technology, which seeks to reduce the number of home laundries by 70% during consumer care phase.
According to Crystal, the new Wash Minus- collection instills the philosophy of water conservation from cradle to grave, and the new line strives to reduce water in three phases. First, the line uses Crystal Denim’s Second Life fabric, a recycled and circular denim fabric designed to reduce waste and water use when growing new cotton.
Crystal Denim uses holistic water-efficient washing procedures in the second phase, which allows more than 80% of the water to be reused and recycled. It seeks to reduce the number of home laundries by 70% during the consumer care phase by using Ionic+ technology in the final stage of denim manufacture.
Miles Lam, assistant general manager of Crystal Denim, said that when it comes to developing new innovative products, sustainability is always at the forefront of their ideas. By incorporating Noble’s new Ionic+ Durable antimicrobial solution, positively charged ions are added to denim products at the finishing stage, where the odour-eliminating ionised silver allows jeans to remain clean and odour-free, reducing the need for frequent washing, helping to conserve water, energy, and natural resources, as well as reducing fabric degradation over time.
Crystal International said it will continue to collaborate with industry colleagues to enhance the development of sustainable products.
Crystal International recently revealed its Net Zero 2050 strategy, which inspired the Wash Minus- line.
