In the garment manufacturing industry, Crystal International Group Limited has long been a leader in sustainable development. Crystal Denim, the denim business of Crystal International, is now speeding up its sustainable journey and plans in response to the demand for even better manufacturing standards.
Crystal Denim is committed to implementing several initiatives to reduce environmental effects from a production viewpoint, with an emphasis on carbon emissions, with the foresight of the denim community's sustainability demands.
To accelerate the development of sustainable denim, several steps will be implemented using a multi-pronged strategy. Crystal Denim is testing a carbon footprint calculator that tracks carbon emissions from a single denim product throughout the whole denim production process, including garment stitching, washing, and finishing.
Miles Lam, assistant general manager of product development of Crystal Denim, said that they're committed to designing and producing zero-carbon jeans, and the first step is to measure, identify, and evaluate the environmental impact of their manufacturing processes, and then visualize it using a transparent principle.
This tool, which will mostly be used for instructional purposes, will be released in 2022. The model will count emissions from manufacturing processes and emissions from general utilities of manufacturing facilities in two phases.
Lam added that it is critical that all industry colleagues work together to combat climate change.
To that end, the carbon footprint calculator will be available to the general public once it is published.
Crystal Denim hopes to raise public awareness and comprehension of denim production's environmental impact, as well as the company's reduction strategy, through the platform. The public will be able to learn more about the full manufacturing process of denim items as a result of this chance.
Second, Crystal Denim is taking proactive steps to reduce its own environmental effect. The company's denim factories in Vietnam and Cambodia are planning to integrate solar photovoltaic systems into sustainable facilities as part of a drive to expand renewable energy as a strategy toward group-wide decarbonization.
Crystal Denim will give a sneak peek of its sustainable initiatives next year, including collaborations with other industry peers along the supply chain, with the goal of innovating 100% sustainable materials, working on various closed-loop and upcycling projects for fashion circularity, expanding digitalization for a 3D virtual journey, enhancing low-carbon initiatives in manufacturing facilities, and driving for greener washing and finishing processes.
