British thread producer Coats has launched a duo of new 100 per cent cotton products, both of which have been certified by the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) according to the organisation’s sustainable raw material criteria.
The two new BCI-certified releases, Tre Cerchi Vero and Tre Cerchi Vero+, align with Coats’ 2022 sustainability strategy outlined earlier this year.
Alongside its BCI certification, the Tre Cerchi Vero+ thread is also Cradle to Cradle (C2C) approved for the dyes and chemicals used in its manufacture. This means that none of the substances C2C deems harmful have been used at any stage of production — including pesticides during cotton cultivation.
Coats states that both Tre Cerchi Vero and Tre Cerchi Vero+ offer buyers “uncompromising looks and performance in a completely sustainable package.â€
Adrian Elliott, president of apparel and footwear at Coats, said: “As our customers strive to achieve their sustainability goals, we can support them by exploring innovative solutions and products which are independently verified as being made from sustainable raw materials.
“We are doing our part to contribute to an end product that the consumer can trust has been made as sustainably as possible and without compromising on quality and performance.â€
The Tre Cerchi range adds to both the number of products in the Coats range but also to the variety of ‘sustainable’ options open to the firm’s customers. Coats points to the 2018 launch of EcoVerde, a revolutionary product range including Coats Epic Ecoverde and Coats Gramax EcoVerde, feature 100 per cent recycled sewing thread, to another offering which offers performance and environmental consideration.
