Co-optex, the Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative after experimenting with organic shirts has introduced linen shirts for men marketed under the brand name LICO — standing for Linens by Co-optex. The shirts are available in two ranges, linen by linen and linen by cotton.
The yarn for the shirts is being procured from marketing agencies in the domestic linen yarn segment, said its managing director T.N. Venkatesh.
In Coimbatore where it was introduced a fortnight ago, the shirts have disappeared off the shelves. The second consignment arrived a few days ago and more are expected to arrive for the festival season.
The full linen variety of shirts with a range of six colours is available in four sizes and priced between Rs. 1,200 and Rs. 1,400 and the cotton mix variety, in 10 colours, priced between Rs. 800 and Rs. 1,000. The shirts are available in all Co-optex showroom across the country.
R. Natarajan, manager of one of the Co-optex outlets in Coimbatore, said that the decision to go linen seems to have paid off. The first set of shirts came a fortnight ago and was sold immediately.
Co-optex is looking at sales revenue of Rs. 150 crore this festival season.
