Champion® Athleticwear, which has been making real athletic clothing since 1919, is stepping up its contribution to sustainability by launching two new environmentally-friendly collections for Earth Day: Natural State Reverse Weave and Rally Pro Earth boots.
The latest lines are part of Champion MADE’s pledge to make athleticwear that feels good, looks good, and, most notably, does good. As part of this dedication, the company is seeking to expand the use of environmentally sourced fabrics and develop new products that reduce the company’s energy and water consumption during the manufacturing process.
The Natural State collection is made from recycled polyester fibers and pays homage to the brand’s Reverse Weave fabrics in their natural, unprocessed state. The series is made up of fabrics that have been minimally treated and are unbleached, as well as all-natural dyes obtained from herbs, roots, and vegetables.
Natural State range features natural, neutral colors, raw corners, and logos made from recycled fabrics which are also included in tees, hoodies, crew-neck sweatshirts, joggers, and shorts, allowing fans to be environmentally aware from head to toe.
Champion’s Rally Pro sneaker gets a makeover with the release of the Rally Pro Earth, which features more earth-friendly materials. This is Champion’s first sneaker, made up of 25-45% upcycled and 50-65% recycled fabrics, depending on the shoe color. The Rally Pro Earth sneaker features an upcycled EVA rubber outsole and a rubber logo sole for stability and is being released in collaboration with BBC International, the brand’s licensee.
David Robertson, Champion marketing director said that Natural State and Rally Pro Earth are just the beginning of what they have planned for the future. Many of the company’s items can be washed in cold water, which saves energy and water, and their Powerblend sweatshirts are already made from a portion of recycled polyester fibers.
He adds that as part of the HanesBrands family, Champion would use 100% recycled polyester and 100% organic cotton in all of its clothing by 2025, achieve zero waste through activities, and total the absolute weight of packaging materials used for goods by 25%.
On April 19, the Natural State series will be available in-store and online at Champion and Urban Outfitters, with prices ranging from $35 to $75. On April 22, the Rally Pro Earth will be available for purchase in select Champion shops and on Champion.com for $104.22 (in honor of Earth Day).
