CCI to hold textile show to flaunt interdependence between artisan community and designers in handloom

The Crafts Council of India (CCI) headquartered in Chennai will be holding a Textile show as part of its golden jubilee year celebration. Marking its 50th year with works towards sustenance of traditional crafts persons with assistance in the form of design and product development, introduction of technologies, recognition through awards and most importantly, marketing.

Textile Show will be presenting the best of handloom textiles. The exhibition aims to give the designs a contemporary edge, while preserving the traditional features of the craft and a perfect example of interdependence between the artisan community and designers, the display will comprise saris, dupattas and stoles too.

The show will include Benarasis, Bengal cottons and silk, bandhini saris and pure Kanchivarams. The block printed chanderis, kota and Maheshwaris and kantha embroidery will be also the highlights of the show.

Smriti Morarka, one of the leading designers will showcase her Tantuvi brand that has revived the declining nakshabandi process. The other renowned designers include Ashdeen Z Lilaowala, who will present the Parsi gara embroidery on saris and haute garments, and Abdul Vahab whose bandhini work will showcase the elegance of the work on dupattas and saris.

Also, look out for the Mura Collective, an interesting combination of shibori work and Maheshwari or tussars.

Apart from textile brands, Falguni Mehta will showcase her traditional and contemporary Jadau jewellery. Jadau is a kind of jewellery crafting that was introduced by the Mughals. Jadau, done with precious and semi-precious stones, has been flourishing in States like Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is a classic example of team work.

The two-day textile show will be held at My Fortune Hotel on September 12 and 13 from 10 am to 7 pm.
