Canopy launches largest database for recycled packaging

The world’s largest collection of recycled and next-generation paper and packaging solutions accessible to brands and businesses has been updated and expanded to include more than 1,100 items to assist businesses in finding the most forest-friendly goods.

Canopy, an international environmental non-profit organization, produced the EcoPaper Database (EPD), which is a catalog of over 1,100 paper and paper packaging solutions available to assist businesses lessen their effect on ancient and endangered forests.

According to Canopy, the resource arrives at an important moment since the impact of paper packaging on the world’s forests, climate, and biodiversity is growing.

The amount of items accessible from Asia has increased significantly in this year’s EPD update, with 203 entries, up from 111 in the previous iteration. It covers 84 Chinese items and 72 Indian products.

The new EcoPaper Database also makes it easy to identify superior ranking’ paper, including references to FSC codes when applicable and includes a scan for coatings containing PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl compounds) in foodservice ware as well as food contact safety compliance.

Nicole Rycroft, Canopy’s executive director, said that they’re delighted that at Canopy, they not only cooperate with their partners to keep ancient and endangered forests out of their supply chains but also give them tools and data to discover smaller footprint alternatives. It’s amazing to watch the EPD grow in size, geographical reach, and availability of disruptive next-generation solutions. Next-generation and recycled inputs are the way forward for paper and packaging and will be critical in relieving sourcing strain on forests and the environment while also decreasing waste.
