Luxury outdoor brand, Canada Goose, has launched its latest sustainable collection, the ‘Kind Fleece,’ which is made from recycled wool and bio-based fibers, to coincide with the release of its 2021 Environmental, Social and Governance report.
According to Canada Goose, the fleece textile category has traditionally been petroleum-based, but their "next-generation" "Kind Fleece" is made from an ultra-soft and breathable fabric made with 62% recycled wool, 18% wood-based Tencel Lyocell, a biodegradable fiber made from wood, and 13% bio-based Sorona Polymer, a plant-based polymer made from corn sugar.
The sustainable 'Kind Fleece' collection arrives with four new styles: the women's Chilliwack Fleece Bomber, women's Severn 12 Zip Sweater, men's Lawson Fleece Jacket, and men's Mersey Fleece Vest, all available in three colorways.
The announcement coincides with the release of Canada Goose's 2021 Environmental, Social, and Governance report, which details the brand's commitments, including materials, chemicals, greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions, supply chain, human and labor rights, and people, including diversity and inclusion, that it has made, fulfilled, and is on track to achieve.
Highlights regarding material commitments reveal that Canada Goose earned Responsible Down Standard (RDS) accreditation in November 2021, months ahead of its pledge. It has also switched over 20% of its resources to sustainable alternatives to conventional materials including organic cotton and recycled polyester and is on schedule to fulfill its 90 percent goal by 2025.
In addition, Canada Goose has announced that it is virtually finished with its Bluesign certification commitment. By 2025, 90% of its fabrics will have received the Bluesign certification for responsible and sustainable operations. It has now risen to about 85%, up from 45% in the 2020 Sustainability Report.
It has also committed to phasing out the usage of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in its Arctic Tech fabric by the end of 2023, as part of a redevelopment of this unique fabric.
In terms of production and operating impact, Canada Goose stated that it remains dedicated to reaching net-zero scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 or sooner, and that the firm has once again achieved carbon neutrality.
