Candiani Denim Store, the Milan-based boutique, and online shop founded by Italian denim mill Canadiani Denim partnered with Los Angeles-based brand Boyish Jeans to launch a limited-edition women’s style made with Coreva stretch denim that also focuses on Gen Z’s demand for looser fits.

In stretch fabrications, the common synthetic and petroleum-based elastomers were replaced by Candiani’s Coreva stretch technology—a plant-based alternative for manufacturing a high-waisted, wide-leg style- Mikey jean.

Being the world’s first biodegradable stretch denim, this new technology has attracted many environmentally conscious leaders like Denham the Jeanmaker, Stella McCartney, and Triarchy who have already used this material in their collections.

Mikey gets its ultra-comfy hand feels and fit from the combination of organic cotton and Lenzing’s recycled cellulosic fibers, Refibra.

Candiani’s Indigo Juice technology is used to dye the fabric which is a process of superficially applying indigo to the yarn, and sizing with Kitotex. Using Kitotex in the production process replaces conventional chemicals, eliminates micro-plastics, and results in a significant reduction of water and energy consumption. In comparison to the conventional denim fabric, the jeans which are produced by using both these technologies consume 75% less water and 65% fewer chemicals.

To help facilitate transparent storytelling, the Candiani Denim Store was launched in 2019. It also serves as a showcase of the mill’s top clients and hard-to-find brands such as Benzak, Blue of a Kind, Ace Rivington, Atelier & Repairs, Closed, Denham, Dondup, and Matias.

Boyish Jeans is also continuing its transparency efforts, through this collaboration. It also added a supply-chain tracing company Retraced GmbH’s blockchain-based transparency plugin last year to its e-commerce website. This provides the consumer’s information on each product’s journey, the production processes needed to produce the item, and environmental implications for all products placed on the platform.
