circular economy
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pledged 80 million pounds in government money to assist a program aimed at transitioning the UK garment sector to a circular fashion model.
Johnson announced the award during a champagne event in honor of sustainable fashion, saying that the “cheque was on its way” and going on to mention many advancements in British design, such as fabric technology and tailoring.
The British Fashion Council (BFC) also attended the reception, announcing that it will use the cash to create a 10-year sustainable transformation initiative for the fashion sector, with the objective of generating a circular fashion ecosystem in the UK.
According to WWD, the BFC’s Positive Fashion Institute will host the organization’s first industry-led initiative, with a focus on recycling, innovation, and new circular business models.
Stephanie Phair, the departing head of the BFC, remarked at the event, Imagine a wonderful city like Leeds regaining its past in this sector – but with reprocessing factories for fabric reuse and clothes take-back centers in high streets.
Justine Simons, London’s deputy mayor, also spoke on the significance of the creative industries and London Fashion Week.
Simons said that there is a genuine vitality returning after the epidemic, and it is crucial for London to have memorable moments that underline its reputation as a global city.
