Boohoo introduces a recycled materials collection

Boohoo, a UK-based fast-fashion retailer, has debuted a new collection made from recycled materials.

The ‘ready for the future’ collection was created in collaboration with a local UK supplier and is made up of 95% recycled polyester and 5% elastane derived from plastic that may otherwise have gone to waste.

The clothes in the collections feature exposed dresses, slinky bodysuits, rib skirts, and one-shoulder crop tops, which come in a color palette of neutral browns and beiges with pops of baby blues, pink, and bottle greens.

The prices of the pieces in the collection vary from ten pounds to twenty pounds, with sizes ranging from eight to twenty-four.

Despatch bags from Boohoo currently contain over 80% recycled plastic. By 2025, the company wants more of the polyester and cotton to be recycled or “more sustainable.”

Boohoo has previously been criticized for its unsustainable fast-fashion business model. It has also been the subject of debate in the UK over allegations of unsafe working practices in its supply chain over the last year.

Following an independent study that found “mainly failings” in the factories of some of Boohoo’s vendors in Leicester, the group released reports of its UK distributors in March. Boohoo had cut ties with hundreds of vendors, according to the list.
