Birla Cellulose and Circ partner to scale textile recycling

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-10-30 17:13:48 – India

Birla Cellulose, a leader in cellulosic fibers under the Aditya Birla Group, has announced a long-term partnership with Circ, a U.S.-based textile recycling innovator. Together, they aim to boost textile-to-textile recycling and make significant strides toward a circular economy.

Under this partnership, Birla Cellulose will annually purchase up to 5,000 tons of Circ’s recycled pulp over five years from Circ’s first commercial facility. This pulp will be transformed into lyocell staple fiber, supporting Circ’s expansion into commercial production and increasing recycled material access within the textile industry.

Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ, emphasized the partnership’s importance, stating, “Our collaboration with Birla Cellulose marks progress toward scalable recycling solutions, demonstrating a shared commitment to a sustainable fashion future by integrating recycled fibers on a global scale.”

Dr. Aspi Patel, CTO of Grasim Industries, highlighted the environmental impact, noting, “By merging Circ’s recycling technology with our cellulosic fibers, we’re enhancing the potential for a true circular economy within the textile sector.” The partnership reinforces both companies' dedication to sustainability and innovation.
