Better Cotton to promote sustainable cotton farming in Brazil

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-04-07 17:05:24 – Brazil

Better Cotton, a global initiative for sustainable cotton, has launched a new programme to support the growth of eco-friendly cotton farming in Brazil. The effort aims to encourage sustainable practices and strengthen the cotton industry’s future in the country.

The first Multistakeholder Dialogue was held on March 26 in Brasília. During the meeting, participants identified three main areas to focus on: building climate resilience, improving traceability, and encouraging stronger cooperation. These focus points will help shape new strategies for the industry and address common challenges in farming and production.

Lena Staafgård, the Chief Operating Officer of Better Cotton, said: “Brazil is not only a major producer and exporter of cotton but also of many other crops. By bringing everyone together, we can face shared challenges and promote better farming methods. I believe this will speed up positive change, and I’m looking forward to our next steps.”

The programme has given Brazilian cotton growers a chance to connect more closely with important industry players. It has allowed them to express their views and learn from others, while also encouraging new ways to solve ongoing problems in the sector.

Kamila Garantizado, a sustainability expert at Lojas Renner, a Brazilian department store, shared: “This was a very informative setting where everyone listened to each other. We realised that many of our needs, like better communication, are shared by others as well.”
