Bestseller signs carbon-neutral shipping deal with Maersk

Danish fashion company Bestseller has signed up for a fully carbon-neutral transportation deal with Maersk as part of its efforts to become climate positive.

The global deal with Maersk, a Danish shipping firm, calls for the use of sustainable biofuel to power certain Maersk boats, which account for 95% of Bestseller’s maritime freight.

The agreement, which takes effect on September 1, calls for the use of sustainable biofuel to power selected Maersk vessels covering 95% of Bestseller’s global shipping needs as well as inland logistics and warehousing.

By 2030, Bestseller has committed to decreasing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50%, and scope 3 GHG emissions from bought products and services, as well as upstream and downstream transportation, by 30%.

Thomas Brglum-Jensen, CFO and head of logistics at Bestseller, said that they’re always investigating methods to improve our environmental impact at Bestseller, and they consider the possibility of utilizing biofuel for their maritime shipping as an essential course of action.

The Maersk ECO Delivery is a carbon-neutral biofuel made from sustainable biomass that has been reprocessed. The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Institute has certified it as a sustainable fuel (ISCC).
