Danish fashion retailer, Bestseller, has created a new circular design guide that will be used by its designers and product developers to ensure that future collections meet recyclability standards.
The corporation is also making the information available to the general public in order to support the industry's collective quest for sustainability and circularity.
With the goal of becoming Circular by Design, Bestseller believe that designing for circularity will be a critical pillar in the fashion industry's transition to a more sustainable future.
This involves taking into account all decisions made at each level of the value chain, from raw materials and production to usage and recycling, for Bestseller. All decisions made by designers and product developers are crucial in determining how a garment might become circular, as each option has a positive or negative impact on all other phases.
Emma Bach Nørbæk, a project specialist in Bestseller's Fashion FWD Lab and a co-creator of the new guide, said that designing for circularity will be a very fundamental component of the fashion industry's sustainable future.
