Garment Workers
Danish fashion retailer Bestseller has become the latest brand to commit to the International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry in Bangladesh and Pakistan. This renewal marks Bestseller’s longest-term commitment to date, and it joins 56 other global fashion brands in prioritizing the safety of garment workers. The recently concluded negotiations resulted in a renewed framework agreement, emphasizing the collective goal of fostering a safe and sustainable textile and garment industry.
Felicity Tapsell, Bestseller’s Head of Responsible Sourcing and a member of the International Accord’s steering committee, encourages all garment and textile companies to sign this agreement. She emphasizes the importance of a collaborative, multistakeholder approach tailored to each country’s specific situation to ensure the health and safety of all textile workers.
Bestseller believes in advancing a collaborative, multistakeholder approach as the best strategy to secure the health and safety of textile workers. The company encourages other garment and textile businesses to join in this collective effort for a safer and more sustainable industry.
In a separate initiative, Bestseller plans to enhance its Dutch Logistics Centre West (LCW) by incorporating automation technology from KNAPP, a leading supplier of automation solutions. This move aims to expand Bestseller’s supply chain in Europe and support its growth.
Additionally, Bestseller has partnered with Swedish fashion retailer H&M Group to develop an offshore wind energy project in Bangladesh. This joint effort aims to contribute to the sector’s transition to renewable energy, showcasing Bestseller’s commitment to sustainable practices beyond worker safety.
