The Bestseller Foundation, the Danish retailer's charitable arm, is funding a new textile waste recycling effort in Nairobi, Kenya's capital.
TakaTaka Solutions' new subsidiary, TakaTaka Textile Recycling, has received funding from the Bestseller Foundation to recycle textile waste into new raw materials for the manufacturing industries. This will not only help the company create a large number of jobs, but it will also improve the environment.
TakaTaka Textile Recycling's initial project entails developing a scalable textile recycling concept for Kenya using TakaTaka Solutions' waste-collecting capability as well as the establishment of a textile sorting center and recycling plant.
Bestseller Foundation owns a 49 percent ownership in TakaTaka Textile Recycling as part of the relationship with TakaTaka Solutions. TakaTaka Solutions is Kenya's largest garbage management and recycling firm and a recycling pioneer, collecting waste from over 20,000 households and managing 70 tonnes of waste each day while employing 430 people.
