Bcomp x Temca
In a pioneering collaboration, Bcomp’s flax fiber composites and Temca’s manufacturing expertise have come together to create innovative cladding panels for the façade of the new Cité Scolaire Internationale Jacques Chirac in Marseille, France. Designed by renowned architects Rudy Ricciotti and Roland Carta, the panels were manufactured by Temca for general contractor Bouygues Bâtiment Sud-Est (BBSE).
Manufactured using resin transfer molding, the panels incorporate a polyester resin reinforced with glass fiber and Bcomp’s ampliTex material. They are coated with a white gel coat to ensure durability against UV rays, rain, and pollution, while also meeting stringent fire safety requirements.
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the panels significantly reduce the building’s environmental footprint. By mitigating heat and glare, they lower cooling demands and enhance energy efficiency. Stainless steel inserts and structural adhesives ensure secure mounting to the building’s façade.
Jean-Claude Boudière, Chairman of Temca, lauded the collaboration: “Bcomp’s active involvement enabled us to industrialize high-performance flax-based composites. The panels not only meet aesthetic and functional expectations but also ensure ease of assembly.”
Paolo Dassi, Industry Manager at Bcomp, added: “This project represents a milestone in using natural fibers for architecture. It has been an honor to contribute to this iconic building that sets a benchmark for sustainable architecture and lightweighting innovation.”
