A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BASF and Sulzer Chemtech (GTC Technology) aims to advance technologies for renewable fuels and chemically regenerated polymers that will enhance the partners’ portfolio of sustainable solutions. The businesses concurred to form a strategic alliance to lower the carbon intensity of renewable aviation and diesel fuel. In order to enhance the conversion of used plastic into new plastics, they will also stimulate the creation of creative, affordable chemical processing technologies. In this partnership, cutting-edge high-performance adsorbents and catalysts from BASF are combined with the skills of Sulzer Chemtech in licensed processing methods and mass transfer equipment.
An experienced licensor of process technology for renewable fuels and chemical recycling of plastics, Sulzer Chemtech is driving initiatives to gather resources that might support international manufacturers in achieving their net-zero goals. With its recently created PuriCycle® portfolio, for instance, BASF Process Catalysts is leading several projects to transform plastic waste into a secondary raw material. It is also offering adsorbent and catalytic materials to produce clean and sustainable fuels.
Detlef Ruff, Senior Vice President, Process Catalysts at BASF, said that by working with partners, they can address issues like global plastic pollution and mobility. This is why BASF is a part of important strategic partnerships designed to safeguard the resources of our world and alter the way they conduct business. They are eager to collaborate with Sulzer Chemtech and to leverage their complementary skills to combat plastic pollution and promote the use of more environmentally friendly fuels.
Torsten Wintergerste, President at Sulzer Chemtech, said that their process technology development team is constantly exploring innovative methods to promote more sustainable, circular processes. Their portfolio may be expanded thanks to the MoU with BASF, and their value propositions for both renewable fuels and the plastics recycling value chain will be strengthened as a result. They are eager to cooperate in order to provide their customer’s with cutting-edge technology that will hasten their transition to net-zero carbon emissions.
