Bangladesh sets jute production target of 91,000 bales this current season for Mymensingh district

The Bangladeshi Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has fixed jute production target of 91,000 bales which will be cultivated on 10,000 hectares of land in all the 12 upazilas of Mymensingh district for the current season.

The decision to set target came in after seeing the keen interest shown by the jute farmers from Mymensingh district to continue with the cultivation of jute

According to DAE, 60 percent of the jute cultivation has been completed and rest of the work will be over and done by the last week of the current month Baishakh.

Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) as a support to farmers to achieve the target set by DAE, through their recognized dealers and five BADC’s sale centers in Muktagachha, Gafargaon, Nandail, Iswarganj and Phulpur of the district arranged to distribute over 20 tonnes of quality seeds among the jute farmers.

They have allotted a total of 25 tonnes of quality seeds in order to boost jute production as well as help reach the set target of jute production in current season.

Besides this, Bangladeshi government has also made available fertilizers and required agricultural inputs to help its farmers.

Local variety of jute is being cultivated on 7,800 hectares of land. Tusha variety on 1,202 hectares, Kanaf variety on 980 hectares and Mesta variety on 196 hectares are at present under cultivation.
