Bally Ribbon Mills (BRM), a company that makes specialized woven fabrics, provided special e-textiles called E-WEBBINGS® to Best Aviation Services Inc.
These e-textiles are being used to support the Torabhaig Atlantic Explorer gas balloon, which is preparing for its first flight across the Atlantic in an open basket gas balloon.
The balloon has an innovative design with electronic components to prevent static electricity. It will take off from Maine, fly over Newfoundland, and then cross the Atlantic to Europe.
This new design was crucial because it allowed for a quicker manufacturing process, saving Best Aviation a lot of time and effort. The balloon is piloted by Sir David Hempleman-Adams, and it will collect air samples for scientific research during its journey, which is expected to take four to five days at an altitude of 6,000 to 8,000 feet. This would be the first time an Atlantic crossing is done in a hydrogen balloon and could set a record for the longest distance covered in this type of balloon.
