At the Thailand Otop Fair (Otop Silapacheep 2016) in Bangkok, Thailand, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) regional office in Iloilo City sent two DTI-assisted enterprises in Western Visayas that specialized in hand-woven fabrics joined the event where more than 2,800 producers from other parts of the world also participate.
DTI Regional Director Rebecca Rascon said that chairperson Marjorie Segurigan of the Indag-an Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative from Barangay Indag-an, Miag-ao, Iloilo, and owner Juler Fernandez of the JAF Handicraft and Piña Industry from Barangay Old Buswang in Kalibo, Aklan displayed their best products at the Otop Silapacheep 2016.
Indag-an Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative produces “hablon†fabrics, shawls, placemats, scarves and barong, among others. “Hablon†is a hand-loomed fabric made from cotton, abaca or other indigenous fibers.
JAF is a producer of hand-woven fabrics for men and women such as barong, gowns, shawls, scarves, wraps, and among others made from hand-woven fabrics from indigenous fibers like pineapple, abaca, silk or cotton.
Community Development Department of Thailand organizer of this event celebrated the activity in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s seventh cycle birthday anniversary on August 12, 2016. The event was held from12 to 20 August.
