Artistic Milliners, Archroma partner on eco-friendly black denim

Artistic Milliners, a pioneer in environmentally conscious denim production based in Karachi, Pakistan, has teamed up with Swiss specialty chemical company Archroma to introduce Evo Black, an innovative black coloration system. The exclusive sulfur black technology not only enhances resource savings in dye manufacturing but also contributes to sustainable fabric production.

Evo Black’s sulfur black technology provides rich black shades without undesirable bronzing effects. Additionally, sulfur base ensures controlled and safe chemistry for consumers, along with substantial savings on water consumption, energy, and CO2 at the mill level. The technology’s positive impact extends to wastewater, leaving behind fewer charged effluents and contributing to a cleaner dyeing process.

The technology is laser-friendly, accommodating chlorine wash processes like regular indigo denim. Compatible with various fibers, including synthetics, Evo Black aligns with Artistic Milliners’ broader strategy of sustainable production from dye to fabric, aiming to minimize the environmental impact of clothing.

Described as a groundbreaking technology by Baber Sultan, the Director of Product and Research at Artistic Milliners, Evo Black offers authentic black denim effects with a dyestuff that is exceptionally cleaner. He emphasized the long-standing partnership between Artistic Milliners and Archroma, stating that their collaborative efforts focus on innovation, process improvement, and the development of sustainable solutions.

Sultan emphasized that Evo Black is not exclusive to Artistic Milliners, expressing the hope that it becomes a widely adopted method for sulfur black dyeing across the industry. As the technology scales, the cleaner and greener dyeing solution is expected to become accessible to mills globally. Artistic Milliners sees Evo Black as an integral part of their broader strategy to embrace sustainable production and reduce the environmental impact of clothing.
