AraPilka resorts to old Philippine traditions

Filipina mothers have been practicing sustainability for years, even before it became the buzz word in the fashion industry. They save the flour sacks and utilize them for their babies as diapers.

As the technology advanced this utilization of these sacks also called katsa just as many other Philippine traditions are being forgotten.

AraPilak, a local brand aims to bring these nostalgic flour sacks back through their new clothing line produced using the humble and ethically purposed katsa.

This collection has come at the time of challenges and is inspired to be an environmentally conscious clothing line. The brand is committed to sustainable practices and are excited to launch their latest flour sack clothing wear.

The brand stated that the use of flour sacks to making clothing was nothing new. They further stated that in the Philippines, resourceful women made everything from bibs, cloth diapers, and handkerchiefs to skirts, blouses, and curtains out of flour sacks or katsa. As this trend has been declining with the advancement of synthetic alternatives the brand decided to launch an awareness clothing line.

Arapilak, a Cuyonon compound term which means “no waste”, have actively been practicing eco-friendly production methods to reduce carbon footprint. This new line launched by the brand marks its entry into the garment making sector of the industry. Earlier this year the brand had designed a line of linen tops that could be worn in multiple ways. The brand wishes to give greener options for fashion consumers today.
