Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) has launched its blockchain-based tool ‘Follow Our Fibre’ that will allow customers to access real-time information on raw material sources in their garments and information on the origin of the fiber. 

The platform was originally launched in 2019 however, their latest version launched recently includes information on supplier’s conservation and biodiversity efforts. The latest version enhances the transparency of information to assure users of their decisions. The update comes at a time where various fashion brands pledge to embrace biodiversity as their core focus.

The platform is now equipped to map APR’s supply chain, starting from lactating forest plantations concessions and conservation areas. The textile producer’s suppliers have conserved over 3.12 million hectares of forests around the globe. This includes the boreal and swamp forests. The preserved forests are rich in biodiversities such as the elusive Sumatra Tiger and Canadian Boreal Caribou. They have also provided ecosystem services protection that includes 22 rivers and tributaries that sum up to over 900km.

Cherie Tan, the Vice President of Sustainability and Communications stated that it was vital to work with their supply partners to preserve and strengthen forest landscape conservation areas rich in biodiversity, that provided endangered species home for the future. Cherie added that the efforts were a part of APR’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Goals (UNSDGs) 13 on Climate Action and 15 pertaining to Life on Land.

Through their conservational efforts, APR hopes its ecological footprint qualifies as their next step to seek opportunities with partners and stakeholders to further add to their forest conservation efforts to enhance biodiversity in areas it sources from. Follow Our Fibre reflects on APR’s long-term objectives towards sustainable pulp sourcing and responsible manufacturing. The newly updated platform enables customers and stakeholders to trace finished products back to forest plantation origins and the ability to monitor the environmental progress of APR’s supply chain.
