AP textile traders demand exemption of GST on textiles

Andhra Pradesh Textile Federation (APTF) demanded the Union and state government to exempt GST tax on textiles. APTF’s President Busireddy Malleswara Reddy opined that imposing of GST would wreck small and medium textile traders.

Reddy at the inauguration of APTF office at Sri Krishnaveni Whole Sale Clothes Market in Panja Centre, on Friday said that from yarn to retailer 30 to 35 percent tax would be imposed under GST.

Reddy stated that they will convene a state-level meeting, on June 11 and that the federation would organize a protest until the centre rolls back GST tax on textiles.

Union government decided to impose 18 percent tax on yarn, 12 percent on readymade garments and 5 percent on retailer sales. This is a critical situation for traders.
