AMSilk, Ajinomoto Foods Europe to produce sustainable silk proteins

Advanced biomaterials company AMSilk GmbH has teamed up with Ajinomoto Foods Europe, a company with over five decades of expertise in industrial fermentation, to collaboratively produce silk proteins through bio-manufacturing.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for AMSilk as it moves swiftly towards becoming a commercial supplier of spider silk-based proteins. The long-term partnership will take place at Ajinomoto Foods Europe’s manufacturing facility in Nesle, France.

AMSilk shared that it will be utilizing Ajinomoto’s vast industrial knowledge in precision fermentation, taking advantage of the strategically located facility in France. The facility, positioned near AMSilk’s major customers in the premium textile and consumer goods sectors, is integrated with local raw materials and renewable energy, aligning with AMSilk’s commitment to sustainability.

AMSilk believes that by leveraging Ajinomoto’s global production capabilities and state-of-the-art facilities, the company is in a strong position to achieve its business goals and deliver sustainable, high-performance biotech materials on a large scale. Their protein formulations contain no animal-derived substances or fossil-based materials and leave behind no microplastics, helping leading brands reduce their carbon footprint.
