Amber Valletta and Karl Lagerfeld join hands to feature a vegan collection

Amber Valletta is introducing cactus leather and recycled cotton to Karl Lagerfeld brand. She has partnered with the house on a variety of environment-friendly accessories for spring 2021.

They are expected to make their debut in March at Karl Lagerfeld stores worldwide and online at sites. She was emotionally touched to be launching Karl Lagerfeld x Amber Valletta collection.

Amber stated that they have worked together before and she is very excited to be partnering with his namesake brand for a project that’s so meaningful to them both. The cornerstone of the collaboration is the K/Kushion bag, which is a squishy style introduced as part of the fall 2020 collection. She added that she was excited to see how their collection would be made using innovative materials with respect for the environment.

The first version will be in green or black, designed from vegan cactus leather developed by Mexican firm Desserto. Lagerfeld brand stated that no irrigation, herbicides or pesticides were required to cultivate the cacti, and the plant-based material, tinted with organic pigments is sustainable and recyclable. Desserto claims its cactus leather to be breathable, durable and highly resistant to abrasion and tearing.

The second version showcases natural, sandy shade of its fabric, which is 90% recycled cotton and certified by the Global Recycle Standard. Finishing touches include a decorative cord that’s also made from GRS-certified recycled cotton.

The bags unique rigged texture and pillow-like aesthetics were inspired by a special cushion Lagerfeld always travelled with. The K/Kushion comes in several variations and is one of the brand’s fastest-selling leather goods ranges this season. The project is a range of small accessories, all produced in an ecologically conscious manner and in accordance with Lagerfeld company’s Code of Conduct. The range also includes a reusable water bottle, zip wallet, cardholder, face mask and laundry bag.

All the profits from the sale f the co-branded K/Kushion bags will go to a charity that supports the goals of the Fashion Pact, an initiative popularised by French luxury group Kering. Over 60 global fashion houses have signed for the pact in 2019 as an initiative to reduce the industry’s impact on the climate, oceans and biodiversity
