Allied Feather partners with Down to boost transparency

Allied Feather & Down has partnered with climate action organization Protect Our Winters (POW) to help increase transparency through its TrackMyDown tool.

Allied Feather & Down introduced TrackMyDown and the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) in 2015. Users of the TMD platform will benefit from the partnership’s greater environmental impact transparency and education.

Matthew Betcher, creative director with Allied, felt that RDS accreditation would bring a new degree of confidence to customers of down goods concerned with animal welfare. By paying attention to their TMD users, it became clear that they should include more details on environmental impacts and actions that can be taken to mitigate them. POW is the ideal partner in this initiative because they are leading activists in the struggle for climate policy change.

Down has been demonstrated to have 85-97% “reduced” impact than synthetic alternatives, but there is still an impact, and it’s critical to explain this to clients and give them the tools they need to take action, according to Allied.

In contrast to “feel-good programs” like carbon offsets or tree-planting campaigns that don’t get to the bottom of the issue, the cooperation with POW enables TMD users to “make a real difference” in enabling climate policy change at the federal level.

Customers of down jackets insulated with Allied down will now be “more informed and equipped to take action in the fight against climate change,” the business continues.

The TrackMyDown service is currently used by over 200 businesses in the outdoor, fashion, and bedding industries. Due to the platform’s current monthly user base of over 15,000, the effects of climate change are highly visible.

Through the usage of its TrackMyDown tool, Allied Feather & Down has teamed up with the climate change advocacy group Protect Our Winters (POW) to build a greater understanding of all the nuances and transparency surrounding the materials used in apparel.
