A&E & Applied DNA Sciences launches anti-counterfeiting technology for sustainable sewing threads

Industrial thread manufacturer, American & Efird (A&E) has rekindled its collaboration with molecular technologies expert Applied DNA (ADNAS) to introduce ECO100 recycled fiber to its A&E Integrity range of products.

With the ECO100 sewing threads and CertainT, applied DNA Science’s polymerase chain reaction-based technology, brands can authenticate and validate their products anywhere along the supply chain.

A rapid, in-the-field optical verification and, if necessary, a portable qPCR test for a forensic examination of the molecular tag may be used to validate a brand’s products and components.

Sara Caverley, an Australian celebrity designer, will employ A&E’s ECO100 thread products in her Calverly footwear brand.

She said one of the most important lessons she has learned as a designer is the necessity of supply chain security. It’s critical that Caverley goods are made using sustainable components that can be tracked throughout their supply chain to ensure they’re giving their clients the finest service possible. The ECO100 recycled sewing threads used by A&E are physical evidence of the one-of-a-kind leather and luxury embellishments found in their goods.

Executive vice president at A&E, Chris Alt, said their consumers are acutely aware of the negative consequences of counterfeit products, which range from missed sales to the possible loss of brand equity. It is a genuine and widespread menace. Their extension of Integrity secure thread technology, developed in collaboration with Applied DNA Sciences, is a natural step in meeting their clients’ demands and extending their brand’s protection solutions.

The Tag, Test, and Track are the 3 technology pillars of the CertainT platform that allow raw materials and products to be branded with a unique molecular identification. As it goes across a worldwide supply chain, its identification may be checked for its presence. By uploading all of the data points connected with tagging and testing to a secure cloud database, all of the data points involved with tagging and testing can be tracked.
