Adidas reports DyeCoo’s CO2 dyeing reduces emissions by 58%

DyeCoo, using waterless dyeing technology at CleanDye’s factory in Vietnam, was found to produce 58% fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to regular textile dyeing, as per a study commissioned by Adidas. Adidas sought to identify and certify low-carbon textile coloration methods. DyeCoo’s supercritical CO2 dyeing is vital for sustainable fashion, reducing both carbon emissions and water pollution. Adidas plans to integrate this CO2 dyeing into its production process.

The study was conducted by Sphera, an independent consultant known for reliable sustainability reports. It compared CleanDye and DyeCoo’s waterless dyeing to three conventional fabric vendors used by Adidas. The findings showed a 58% smaller carbon footprint compared to traditional fabric dyeing.

This news coincides with the rising interest in DyeCoo’s technology worldwide, including countries like Turkey, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, and Central America, and major international brands aiming to reduce their carbon footprint. DyeCoo showcased new CO₂ dyeing solutions at ITMA, the largest international textile and garment technology exhibition, held in Italy in June. They introduced a smaller electric CO₂ dyeing machine for sampling and a sophisticated lab system for R&D.

Kasper Nossent, Commercial Director at DyeCoo, expressed excitement about the report and the growing use of CO₂ dyeing in textile manufacturing. DyeCoo looks forward to extending this technology to factories globally in collaboration with brand partners.

Apart from being eco-friendly, DyeCoo’s CO₂ dyeing technology provides a wide range of vibrant colors and maintains high consistency in bulk production without compromising quality or cost.

Simon Weston, CEO of CleanDye, highlighted the significance of the LCA for their Vietnam facility where DyeCoo’s technology is used to produce sustainably manufactured fabric at competitive prices.

CleanDye has already supplied fabrics for renowned brands, and discussions are ongoing with many other global apparel and footwear brands to incorporate DyeCoo and CleanDye into their supply chains. Further improvements have been made to CleanDye’s process after analyzing the LCA, ensuring even lower carbon emissions than initially reported.

Kenneth Katz, Managing Director & Head of Asia at TAU Investment Management, stressed the critical importance of such innovation in reducing water pollution and carbon emissions from textile dyeing. DyeCoo’s patented technology and CleanDye’s purpose-built dyeing facility in Vietnam play a significant role in the sustainable transformation of the fashion industry. The aim is to expand the impact of DyeCoo and CleanDye’s innovation for a greener fashion industry.
