The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) has called upon the Cambodian government to address the issue of child labor and the burning of mixed garment waste in the country's brick kiln industry. Expressing concern, the AAFA's appeal emphasizes the need for immediate action to tackle these harmful practices.
The AAFA's call follows a report by the Cambodian League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights (LICADHO). The report, based on visits to 21 brick factories in Phnom Penh and the neighboring province of Kandal, along with worker interviews, sheds light on the prevalent issues of child labor and the burning of mixed garment waste in the Cambodian brick kiln industry.
As concerns grow regarding unethical practices, the AAFA's letter underscores the urgency for the Cambodian government to intervene and address these issues promptly. The call to action aims to safeguard the rights and well-being of workers while fostering a responsible and ethical environment within the country's apparel and footwear industry.
