Polyester fibre and yarn prices plummet in Asia

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2019-08-20 07:58:28 –

Polyester staple fibre (PSF) prices in China jumped at the beginning of July but plummeted towards the end of the month due to a decrease in demand. In India, PSF producers increased their offers for the month, however trading activity was passable. In Pakistan, prices rose sharply during the month. In China, 1.4D PSF was up US cents 5 a kg as compared to June. In India, 1.2D PSF prices rose US cents 2 a kg from last month. In Pakistan, prices in Karachi were up US cents 6 a kg on the month.

Polyester filament yarn (PFY) prices were range-bound in China amid mixed trends in the raw material costs during the month. A few downstream mills had cut production or went for a holiday due to bearish sentiment. Consequently, PFY producers faced lower sales which resulted into piling up of inventory. In China, POY 75/72 prices were up US cent 4 a kg in Shengze while Indian POY 130/34 prices were up US cent 1 a kg. In Pakistan, 300/96 DTY prices rose US cent 1 on the month.

Polyester spun yarn prices were soft in China in tandem with low PSF cost and overall dull sentiment in July. Demand for polyester yarn was depressed in the country. In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn were down US cents 11 a kg from June. In India, 30 polyester knit yarns were up US cents 5 a kg in Ludhiana market. In Pakistan, 30s spun polyester yarn offers rose US cents 5 a kg as compared to last month.
