Asian caprolactum markers, the SE and FE were up US$30-50 a ton in the second week of August. In China, offers for liquid spot were at US$1,715-1,730 a ton while solid goods offers were slightly higher at US$1,775-1,800 a ton. Sinopec August contract price nomination was steady for liquid goods.
Caprolactum markets in Asia saw activity picking up rapidly boosted by the dramatic surge in benzene cost and prices firmed up amid decent liquidity. Meanwhile, contracts for July were concluded higher compared with values in June largely due to an on-going tight supply in the region.
In Europe, Fibrant confirmed that it was making good progress with the start-up of its caprolactum facility in Geleen, The Netherlands, following the force majeure declared in early July. Earlier, it had announced its plans to wind down operations at its caprolactam facilities in Augusta, Georgia.
