ASF prices stable despite high input cost

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices rolled over in the third week of August. Sinopec released settlement prices for July for 1.5D ASF were unchanged. Offers for Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow was flat at US$1.55-1.65 a kg while regular specs was at US$1.50-1.55 a kg.

Acrylic staple fibre prices remained stable on the week despite the surge in acrylonitrile cost over the past few weeks. In China, trading atmosphere was thin and offers were high, but no trade concluded reflecting high resistance. Given poor sales in domestic market and weak sentiment in export market, some downstream yarn and fabric makers cut their operating rates.

In India, trading in domestic as well as export markets remained dismal under insipid downstream demand. Thus, ASF prices rolled over.

Similarly, prices remained unchanged in Pakistan over the week.
