Sanjiv, 36, is an accomplished pilot, scuba diver, and an avid horseman.
Born
in India, he grew up in Manila, Philippines. Later he went on to do his
undergraduate studies in Business Management at Boston University.
In the early years, he underwent training at Citibank and PriceWaterhouse.
During his years in various industries, he learnt about the inefficiencies
of global business. The lack of transparency, high level of mediation,
and slow process were lessons learnt hard by Sanjiv.
In 1995, Sanjiv got busy putting this idea into a reality.
The exchange was designed to run on a VSAT backbone and was to have a
clearinghouse for transactions.
The fundamental objective was to leverage use of technology to make business
processes more efficient.
The idea, at that time, seemed way ahead of its times.
Sanjiv put together a small team of five people in 1998
to start building meaningful technologies for "Real World" businesses.
The team has grown over the period, but the focus remains to be Business
Process Automation.
He has been an ardent supporter of the Linux movement. He put together
a team that does advanced work in the areas of reducing Total Cost of
Ownership of computer hardware and software infrastructure for companies.
Sanjiv also heads the STEER
Foundation, a social welfare organization, which works toward improving
the quality of life of people in India.
The self-sustaining business model has been amongst the first in India.
Besides running a school with 48 children, it promotes farming without
use of chemicals and pesticides. The farming technique is designed to
support the cost of living for a family of five on 1000 sq. meters of
land.
Sanjiv is married to Shilpa and has two children, daughter Illesha 7,
and Son Agasteya 5, a boxer, Duchesse, and an African Grey Parrot, Chilli.
