US manufacturer and marketer of home products WestPoint Home (WPH) decides to make investment of $9 million for its third spinning capacity expansion at its Bahrain manufacturing complex. The company announced the expansion plans after a recently held meeting between WPH senior officials and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Zayed R Alzayani.
They also discussed measures to mitigate the impact of expiration of Tariff Preference Level (TPL), which allows duty-free access for textile exports from Bahrain to the US. The meeting was facilitated by the American Chamber of Commerce Bahrain (AmCham).
President and Chief Executive Norman Savaria said that the third phase expansion project will increase spinning capacity by 38 percent. Spinning more yarn in Bahrain will decrease lead times, increase flexibility.
With this, the company will have invested more than $25 million in expanding capacity, capabilities and environmental projects over the past three years. This includes weaving, spinning projects, expansion of automatic and manual sewing and embroidery work.
He further said that giving WestPoint Home confidence to continue to build its manufacturing base in Bahrain as well as boost imports to the US by 15pc last year alone has stemmed largely from the support that they have been provided from various Bahraini ministries as they conduct their business activities and implement these expansion projects and hire and train both foreign and local employees.
The firm’s exports from Bahrain to the US had increased by 15 percent just last year.
