W-Cycle Ltd., a pioneer in sustainable food packaging, has joined forces with Melhoramentos, a publicly traded Brazilian company with expertise in publishing, renewable forestry, and real estate. Together, they plan to produce compostable food packaging from renewable materials that decompose naturally within 100 days.
The partnership, valued at USD 3.45 million over three years, will see W-Cycle supply Melhoramentos Latin America with its patented food-grade packaging formula and consulting expertise. Melhoramentos will leverage its own cellulose fibers, sourced from over 80 million square meters of renewable forestry, to manufacture advanced biodegradable packaging.
W-Cycle has revolutionized eco-friendly packaging with its patented SupraPulp™ material. This food-grade packaging is crafted from sugarcane waste (bagasse) and other sidestream materials, such as eucalyptus fibers and banana leaves. SupraPulp containers are designed to hold both frozen and heated foods without the need for plastic laminations, ensuring durability and leak resistance.
SupraPulp trays are capable of withstanding temperatures from -40°C to 220°C and are fully compostable, breaking down naturally within 100 days. “Our formulations enable manufacturers to shift away from plastic PET materials, creating robust, guilt-free containers that return to the earth after use,” Rome added.
