Spinnova, ASK Scandinavia to launch eco-friendly handbag

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-10-21 15:26:39 – Finland

Spinnova has partnered with Helsinki-based premium brand ASK Scandinavia to release a sustainable work tote bag made from 30% wood-based SPINNOVA fibers and 70% cotton. The bag is dyed using a natural indigo dye made from Paulig’s coffee waste, marking the first time SPINNOVA fibers have been colored with natural dyes.

The collaboration brings together Spinnova's pioneering fiber technology, ASK Scandinavia's minimalist Nordic design, and Natural Indigo Finland’s innovative use of coffee waste for dyes. This trio of sustainable innovators focuses on reducing environmental impact, as Spinnova’s fibers use 98% less water and have 74% fewer CO2 emissions than conventional cotton, and ASK Scandinavia's durable designs ensure product longevity.

ASK Scandinavia’s Director of Design and Sustainability, Anette Cantagallo, emphasized that the collaboration is about more than aesthetics; it's about actively driving change in the fashion industry by utilizing next-gen materials and sustainable practices. Shahriare Mahmood, Spinnova’s Chief Product and Sustainability Officer, highlighted the project’s success in exploring SPINNOVA® fibers' versatility in new applications like handbags.
