BASF has introduced two new sustainable product variants within its polyamide value chain in Europe: Ultramid LowPCF, with a reduced CO2 footprint, and Ultramid ZeroPCF, with net zero greenhouse gas emissions. These variants, which include the Ultramid B brand and precursor caprolactam, are designed to significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional products, helping customers meet sustainability goals.

The production of LowPCF products relies on renewable energy, such as electricity from the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm, and low-emission steam from certified biomethane. This results in a 30% reduction in Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) from raw material extraction to factory gate. To achieve net zero emissions in Ultramid ZeroPCF products, BASF uses renewable raw materials via a mass balance approach, certified under the ISCC PLUS standard.

Pedro Serra, Head of Sales PA6 Europe at BASF, highlighted that BASF is the first to offer both LowPCF and ZeroPCF options in the polyamide 6 value chain, meeting growing industry demand for sustainable solutions. BASF will showcase its new portfolio at the Fakuma trade fair in October, aligning with its commitment to climate neutrality by 2050.
