Officina39 recognised for sustainable Recycrom dye

Sustainable Fashion Awards 2024, organized by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana at Milan’s La Scala Theatre, honored Biella-based Officina39 as one of three finalists for their patented Recycrom innovation. Theatre's spotlight illuminated a dye made from textile waste at the Sustainable Fashion Awards 2024.

Officina39 began creating Recycrom, a line of pigment powders made entirely from used clothing and textile scraps through a patented mechanical upcycling process a few years ago. These dyes can be applied to natural and synthetic fabrics by dyeing, printing, coating, or spraying. The brand specializes in developing sustainable chemicals for the textile, apparel, and denim industries, focusing on low environmental impact technologies.

Officina39 has continued refining Recycrom in collaboration with brands that provide garments for recycling to create unique, custom-made dyes. Blue of a Kind, Calvin Klein, Flavia La Rocca, G-Star, H&M Group, OVS, Pangaia, Stella McCartney, and Tommy Hilfiger are among the brands involved in this process.

To make Recycrom even more accessible, Officina39 recently launched Recycrom Ready to Dye, a collection of 15 stock colors made from at least 65 percent recycled pre- and post-consumer textile materials. This allows brands to select and create dyes from a standardized color chart, further promoting sustainable fashion.
