YKK works on extending the lifespan of textile products

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-09-20 16:29:04 – Japan

Tokyo-based YKK Corporation is introducing a renewed series of products to help extend the lifespan of textile items. This initiative focuses on making textile products last longer through easy repair options, which is becoming increasingly important in the fashion industry as reuse gains more attention. YKK’s new line will allow for the repair of VISLON® zippers by attaching replacement elements using a special tool, making it possible to fix broken zippers without replacing the entire zipper.

This new approach from YKK will simplify zipper repairs at brand service centers, reducing repair time significantly. Instead of replacing the whole zipper, only the damaged part will need fixing. This shift towards quicker, more efficient repairs is expected to be beneficial for repair centers by streamlining the process.

YKK’s renewal series aims to reduce waste by making it easier to repair damaged zippers, allowing people to keep using their favorite clothes for longer. This effort supports a move towards a more sustainable and circular economy in the fashion industry, where products are reused instead of thrown away.

YKK plans to keep expanding this line of repairable products while working to address environmental challenges throughout the fashion supply chain. By offering more solutions like this, the company hopes to help the industry become more sustainable and reduce its environmental footprint.
