Teijin Frontier expands production of conjugate filaments

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-09-16 16:32:01 – Thailand

Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd. has announced plans to increase its production of conjugate filaments by expanding the spinning and drawing capabilities at its group company, Teijin Polyester (Thailand) Limited. The expansion aims to meet rising global demand for these filaments, which are considered an attractive alternative to wool fibers.

TPL, located in Bangkok, will become a hub for producing both current and future conjugate filaments. The new equipment will increase production capacity to 700 tons per year by FY2025, with full-scale production beginning in September 2024. The expanded facility will supply raw yarns, textiles, and finished goods to domestic and international markets, including Teijin Frontier Group.

Teijin also explained the production process for conjugate filaments, where two different polymers are spun together from a divided spinneret, creating fibers with structures like side-by-side or core-sheath configurations. This process allows for versatile applications and functional properties.

Teijin Frontier highlighted strong sales growth in materials like Trixion, which mimics the look and feel of worsted wool while offering properties such as stretchability. These filaments are widely used in fashion apparel and uniforms. To address this demand, TPL has been operating near full capacity and has introduced efficiency improvements, but further expansion was necessary to keep pace.
