ILO launches sustainable initiative with EkoDoku in Türkiye

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-08-22 17:09:13 – Turkey

The International Labour Organization (ILO) Office in Türkiye has collaborated with the EkoDoku Women Sustainable Living Cooperative to develop a fashion collection using environmentally-friendly fabrics and techniques. Through this initiative, the ILO aims to raise awareness of the harmful effects of fast fashion while creating formal job opportunities to help organize the sector in Türkiye.

The ILO is enhancing Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) at EkoDoku to address challenges such as informal employment, low wages, and limited productivity. The pilot project at EkoDoku is focused on promoting green job creation and inclusivity, particularly for groups like Syrians under temporary protection, international protection applicants, status holders, and local communities.

Esra Üzel Yüncüler, the founding member and chairperson of EkoDoku, emphasized the cooperative's dedication to sustainable textiles, decent work, and boosting women’s employment.
