Ultrafabrics unveils eco-friendly, ocean-inspired fabrics

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-07-30 09:43:10 – USA

New York-based Ultrafabrics is launching Pumice, its newest fabric collection designed to bring the charm of underwater exploration to both indoor and outdoor active living spaces. The Pumice collection features a unique color palette and exceptional durability, crafted from Repreve’s recycled PET polyester and Lenzing’s responsibly sourced Ecovero viscose.

“We have always led in luxury marine performance fabrics, from mega yachts to smaller recreational watercraft, and we wanted to extend that technology to hospitality and residential design,” says Ultrafabrics director of branding Nicole Meier. “Pumice fabrics have the soft feel of leather suitable for outdoor furniture, combined with the durability of luxury marine fabrics.”

These fabrics are built for outdoor use, featuring EPA-registered anti-mildew, antimicrobial, and antibacterial agents to prevent deterioration and maintain hygiene. They offer excellent colorfastness to sunlight, perspiration, chlorine, and seawater, ensuring long-lasting vibrancy even in harsh conditions. The textured surface adds a tactile dimension, making them ideal for active settings like marine seating and high-exposure furniture.

Each linear yard of Pumice fabric repurposes approximately eight recycled plastic bottles. The fabrics are also bleach-cleanable and have received SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification, enhancing their suitability for both commercial and residential environments.
