Billabong has introduced its most environmentally sustainable wetsuit range to date, named the ‘Upcycler’ collection. The collection transforms post-consumer textiles from jerseys into raw materials for making internal rubber, showcasing a significant step towards sustainability.
Additionally, Billabong has replaced synthetic rubber with natural, FSC-certified rubber sourced from the Hevea brasiliensis tree. These combined efforts position the Upcycler wetsuits as the market's most sustainable option.
Scott Boot, global director of wetsuits at Liberated Brands, Billabong’s primary operating partner in North America, emphasized their commitment to designing, constructing, and prolonging the lifespan of their products as much as possible.
He stated, “Even as products reach the end of their lifecycle, innovative solutions like recycling old clothing reduce the need for new petroleum-derived materials and prevent them from ending up in landfills.”
